As the European Union moves toward stricter restrictions on PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), the global fastener surface-treatment sector is entering a new phase of technological transition. As a major coating supplier in the automotive and industrial fastener markets, Magni has spent years developing PFAS-free corrosion-protection systems and has become one of the early leaders in this field.

As early as 2019, Magni’s PFAS-free coating system was approved under Volkswagen’s fastener specifications, making it one of the first eco-friendly alternatives recognized by major OEMs. Since then, the company has continued improving its basecoat and topcoat formulations, gaining wider application in the automotive, wind power, and other high-corrosion-resistance sectors.

Magni notes that as EU regulations tighten, only very limited exceptions will be allowed to continue using PFAS materials. This means OEMs and the entire fastener supply chain must accelerate their switch to safer and more sustainable coating technologies. Under this trend, PFAS-free coatings are expected to become the mainstream requirement for fasteners entering the EU market.

Alongside technical development, Magni has strengthened supply stability through localized production in Germany, Europe, and the United States, reducing dependence on external raw-material suppliers. The company highlights that its German manufacturing site provides strong quality control, advanced technical capabilities, and well-trained personnel—allowing fastener customers to receive reliable corrosion-protection solutions and rapid support.

With increasing performance demands from automotive and wind-power applications, Magni supports fastener manufacturers through open laboratory access, technical consultation, and joint development programs—helping shorten development cycles and meet evolving environmental regulations.

Amid the rising environmental requirements for fastener exports, PFAS-free coatings are set to become a key industry trend, especially for fasteners supplied to European automotive and wind-energy markets.
